A Full Day of Family, Fun, and Small Wins
Today started slow but ended with some big, unexpected wins. After setting my alarm for 10:30 AM, I found myself waking up around 9 but lingering in bed until nearly 11. There’s something about those slow, sleepy moments in the morning that feels right—especially since I still need to be mindful of movements that could trigger pain.
Starting the Day with Family
My nephew, Jace, came over right after church, bringing along the ukulele I gave him for his birthday. We started practicing outside at 1:40 PM, working on chords like C, AM, F, and G. He’s picking it up fast! We eventually moved inside to continue our lessons—too many bugs outside. It was great bonding time, and I love seeing him excited about music.

Managing the Incision and Drainage
By 3:20 PM, I knew it was time to address my incision. After two days, I finally removed the bandage—it had barely drained. I decided to open up the sinus tract, and sure enough, a small amount of fluid came out. It wasn’t a lot, but enough to remind me that this part of my recovery is still ongoing. These little routines have become a normal part of life now—taking care of my wound while staying hopeful about the healing.

Juicing and Standing on My Own
After taking care of the incision, Jace and I started juicing the apples and carrots I had stored in my fridge. He loves operating the juicer, and it’s always fun doing these little things together. I stood for a solid 20 minutes, fully weight-bearing on both legs while we worked in the kitchen—another sign that I’m gaining more strength and stability each day.
A Visit to My Business and Big Steps Forward
Around 5:00 PM, we decided to head out for a little adventure. We stopped by my business, Cell Repair 4 Less, which has been closed for over two months now. Jace’s iPad had a cracked screen, so we fixed it together. While we waited for the screen to adhere, we watered the aloe plants and I administered my daily dose of IV antibiotics. I was also able to walk around the office using just my cane instead of crutches. I felt like I was taking real steps forward, both figuratively and literally.

Dinner Out: First Time Driving and Dining Inside
After working at the office, I felt capable of doing more. So I suggested we head to Barley’s Taproom for pizza. This was the first time I had driven to and eaten inside a restaurant since my hip replacement surgery. I finally felt strong enough to handle the drive and enjoy a meal out. I had a pineapple and pepperoni slice, while Jace went for plain pineapple. It felt great to be out in the world again, enjoying a slice and feeling a little more like myself.

Ending the Day with Gratitude
Later in the evening, my parents and niece, Sadie, stopped by with some groceries. We ended up doing a little challenge—Jace and Sadie both ate a spoonful of mustard for $5! It was hilarious especially considering neither of them like mustard and I personally despise it!
By 9:45 PM, I was exhausted. I didn’t get to work on the blog like I had hoped, but it’s okay. I’m learning to accept that some days it’s better to just rest and acknowledge the progress. Today was filled with walking, family time, and small wins that felt monumental.
Even though I didn’t do my official physical therapy, I stood and walked more than I have in weeks. As I prepare to wind down, I’m realizing that this is all part of the process—small, steady steps toward recovery.
Reflection
I’m grateful for these small wins, even though there are still challenges ahead. Walking with a cane after two months, fixing an iPad, and going out for pizza might seem like everyday things for most people, but for me, they were significant. Recovery isn’t linear, and today was a reminder that, despite the setbacks, progress is being made.
One last note before bed: I got my journaling in today, which is always a nice way to close out the night.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you made it to the end, I would love to hear from you!
